Jesus Comforts Those Who Sorrow

Adults Class
Scripture References:

John 16:6

Story Summary:

Jesus foretells the sorrow of His disciples when He is gone. He explains that it is necessary for Him to go back to the father so the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, can be sent to them by His Father. For His disciples, Jesus compares his return to the Father to be like childbirth. There is great pain and sorrow until the child is delivered. He said they would be full of sorrow and would be weeping. The world would be rejoicing but their sorrow would turn to joy and the world would be sorrowful. When He returns to the Father, the Father will send the Holy Spirit to them. The Holy Spirit reproves the world of sin because of unbelief. It reproves of righteousness because He is with the Father and is seen no more. He reproves of judgment because the prince of this world, Satan, is judged. This opens the way of communication with His Father and the Holy Spirit will glorify Him, Jesus, by showing them what belongs to Him. Jesus says His Father will hear us and based on the authority of His Name, we will receive whatever we request. He foretells their scattering and leaving Him alone but reassures them that He won't really be alone because the Father is always with Him. He says I have told you these things so you might have peace. The world is full of trouble and tribulation but we have the heritage of looking at what He has done and knowing we have His peace because He has overcome the world. How about you? Do you walk in his peace today or do you let the cares of this world tell you to be anxious? He tells us He wants us to trust Him fully and rely on Him for all things. Let us practice this as we love one another. I hope to see you in Sunday School at 10:00 AM.
