Why Fire?
Luke 3:16 John answered, saying to all, I Indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose shoes I am unworthy to loose, He will baptize you with the Holy Ghost and fire. Why fire? First of all, fire is an emblem of the persistence of God. Ezekiel 1:27 Also from the appearance of His waist and upward, I saw, as it were the color of amber with the appearance of fire all around and in it; and from the appearance of his waist downward , I saw, as it were the appearance of fire with brightness all around. 28 Like the appearance of a rainbow on a rainy day, so was the appearance all around it. This was the appearance of the Glory of the Lord. The fire is a refiner's fire (purification) Malachai 2:3.. In Exodus 13:21,22, 4:4- the fire was a guide for the Children of Israel on their journey from Egypt. Fire to cook their food , keep them warm, and to protect them from dangerous substances which fire uncontaminates; e.g. boiling water to kill the things which make us sick. God's ministers should be a flaming fire, representing His presence. Psalms 104:4, 5:33 Elijah was taken up in a chariot of Fire 2 Kings 2:11 ,6:17 The earth will be renovated by fire when the tribulation is over and Jesus comes to rule and reign for 1000 years. James 3:6. And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
