Character Study: Isaiah Part 2 – Isaiah’s Call Confirmed Isaiah 6:1-13
In the year King Uzziah died (740 B.C.), Isaiah saw a vision in which the Lord was “high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple.” Seraphim (angels) were seen worshiping the Lord. The door posts shook and smoke filled the house. (6:1-4)
Isaiah received a heavenly vision that confirmed his calling as a prophet. Note the sequence of events as they unfolded:
The Lord revealed His glory (vv. 1-4).
Isaiah recognized his sinfulness (v. 5).
Isaiah experienced God’s forgiveness (vv. 6-7).
The removal of sin led to an opportunity to serve (v. 8). The Lord gave Isaiah his mission (vv. 9-13).
Isaiah would speak on behalf of the Lord, prophesying coming judgment to the people of Judah. Despite the warning, Isaiah was told that most of the people would not turn from their sin. (6:9-13)
